This website contains projects and activities designed to use at the beginning of school for Prek and Kindergarten. The activities are designed using the Blended Learning approach, combining inquiry learning with technology for Project Based Learning oppportunities.
Description of the Activities:
My School Community: This topic consists of two modules. The first module module consists of activities to highlight our classroom community. Students will learn about what a community is, and different types of communities. Activities will help students learn about their fellow classmates, and celebrate similarities and differences. A classroom book will be completed by the group noting information about their classmates in our classroom community. The second module will establish behavior expectations and classroom rules. This module will incorporate technology to produce online classroom posters with PSA videos embedded within the poster. Daily objectives and goals are listed on each module page.
Who I Am: This module will illustrate what makes all of us individuals and unique. Students will recognize that their personalities make them special. Students will create an online VoiceThread that contains a self-portrait drawing and sentences to desribe themselves. Parents will have the opportunity to comment on their student's project. Daily objectives and goals are listed on each module page.
My Family: This module begins by introducing the 2 modules, My Family and My Home. During this module the students will listen to a variety of online texts and songs, leading them to sort and identify members in a family, draw a picture of their family, and sort boys and girls in a family. This module includes e-books and games for students to listen to and play as they gain academic vocabulary on the family topic.
My Home: This module contains a variety of activities which will lead students to the final project after completing the 2 modules: My Family and My Home. During this module the students will listen to a variety of online texts and songs, leading them to answer questions about different types of homes, name parts of a home, draw a picture of their home, and sort things inside and outside of a home. This module includes e-books and games for students to listen to and play as they gain academic vocabulary on the home topic. This module ends with students creating a story board on the resource called, Little Bird Tales. Using pictures, drawings, and words, the story board will explain the students family and home.
My Body: This link takes you to a WebQuest designed for students to identify body parts, and create a visual presentation to identify body parts. The WebQuest contains a variety of activities including dancing, matching, listening, collaborating, and labeling, leading students to complete a final project. By the end of the WebQuest, the students will work in pairs taking pictures of different body parts with the iPad. The pictures will be uploaded on a flipchart for the students to label and practice matching throughout the school year.
My Feelings: This link takes you to a WebQuest designed to explore feelings and emotions. Activities will culminate with students having the ability to identify, and explain basic emotions. The projects contained in this WebQuest will allow students to explore emotions supported with technology. Students will create a feelings book, and a video demonstrating and explaining different emotions. Objectives and goals are listed within the WebQuest.
